International Center of Cultures and Religions

International Center of Cultures and Religions (hereafter - the Center) was established in accordance with the Action Plan for the implementation of the initiatives voiced by President of the Republic of Kazakhstan Nursultan Nazarbayev at the II Congress of Leaders of World and Traditional Religions.

In accordance with the decision of the Government of the Republic of Kazakhstan dated August 28, 2008. № 785 "About creation of government institution" International Center of Cultures and Religions of Ministry of Justice of the Republic of Kazakhstan the Center began its activities at Committee for Religious Affairs of MJ of RK.

Since March of 2010 according to the decree of the Government of the Republic of Kazakhstan dated March 31, 2010 the Center was transferred to Committee for Religious Affairs of the Ministry of Culture of the Republic of Kazakhstan.

May 18, 2011 President of Kazakhstan Nursultan Nazarbayev signed a decree "On Agency for Religious Affairs of the Republic of Kazakhstan." "In accordance with paragraph 3) of Article 44 of the Constitution of the Republic of Kazakhstan decided to reorganize Committee for Religious Affairs of Ministry of Culture of the Republic of Kazakhstan through the allocation Agency for Religious Affairs of the Republic of Kazakhstan.

On the basis of the decision of the Government of the Republic of Kazakhstan dated August 1, 2011 № 888 "Issues Agency for Religious Affairs of the Republic of Kazakhstan" transferred to the Center of the Agency for Religious Affairs.

According to the decree of the Government of the Republic of Kazakhstan №1003 «About some questions of the Ministry of Culture and Sports of the Republic of Kazakhstan", dated 23 September 2014 according to the decree of the Government of the Republic of Kazakhstan №1440 «On some questions of the Ministry of Culture and Sports of the Republic of Kazakhstan" dated December 31, 2014 was renamed.

The underlying purpose of the Center is to promote a new level of Kazakhstan's role as one of the international centers of intercultural and interfaith dialogue. This contributes to the popularization of international experience of our state on strengthening interfaith harmony and unity of the people of Kazakhstan.

In order to achieve the intended purpose, the Centre is implementing the following tasks:

- the study and application of international experience of harmonization of social relations in the field of culture and religion;

- ensuring effective cooperation between state bodies and civil society institutions in the sphere of interethnic and interfaith relations;

- strengthening of Kazakhstan patriotism through the prism of interethnic and interfaith relations;

- organization and carrying out of measures aimed at the spiritual education of the population and strengthening interfaith harmony.

Center expands the range of contacts with partners from both the near and far abroad. The close links established with similar centers around the world.

The Centre is actively developing fruitful cooperation within the country, including religious organizations, research and analytical institutions, leading universities, cultural centers and NGOs.

Since its inception, the Centre actively involved in the process of implementing initiatives Congresses of Leaders of World and Traditional Religions.

It takes part in the preparation and conduct of V Congress of spiritual leaders.

Centre, implementing progressive initiatives of political and religious leaders, is actively supporting the promotion of a new level of the role of independent Kazakhstan as a tolerant state, which has become for the whole of the civilized world area of intercultural and interfaith dialogue.

Since its inception, Doctor of Philosophy, Professor Aydar Abuov, headed the Centre.

The staff of the Center is formed from a number of scientists, theologians, philosophers and political scientists of Kazakhstan
